Metal Dave Media is an independent music media and video production company specializing in documenting the world of heavy music from the inside.

 

Founded by David “Metal Dave” Gonzalez, Metal Dave Media has evolved from concert photography into a visual media operation focused primarily on tour videography, live music production, music videos, artist interviews, and documentary-style storytelling.

Since 2022, David has toured worldwide with some of the biggest names in heavy music, working directly with artists to document their lives on the road and create the visual content that represents their tours to fans around the world.

What sets Metal Dave Media apart isn’t simply documenting what happens on stage — it’s documenting what happens behind the curtain.

David travels with the artists, lives alongside them on the road, and becomes part of the touring environment. His daily tour recaps aren’t simply collections of concert clips. They tell the story of the day — the travel, the personalities, the backstage moments, the unexpected experiences, the people, and the life that exists between the shows.

David has traveled with these artists across the world, including major metal and rock festivals and international touring dates.

While on the road, he creates daily video content for the artists’ social media and digital platforms, documenting each show and everything surrounding it.

David handles the entire creative process himself — developing the story, shooting, directing, editing, and delivering the finished product.

This one-person approach allows him to move quickly, work naturally around the artists, and capture moments that a larger production crew often can’t.

David created the concert film, which has been viewed by more than half a million people on YouTube and has become a favorite among DOWN fans.

 

Artist Interviews & Documentary Work

David regularly interviews artists and musicians as part of his work on the road and has contributed interviews and editing to Everything Is A-OK, a documentary exploring the Dallas punk scene.

His documentary and storytelling work extends beyond music coverage as well. David has written and directed short films, with two of his films receiving awards.

 

Artist Relationships

David’s primary artist relationships include Philip Anselmo, Zakk Wylde, Charlie Benante, and Chuck Billy, along with the many artists and bands he has worked with throughout his career.

His work has taken him around the world, documenting artists at major concerts and festivals across the international metal and rock scene.

From Photography to Film

Metal Dave Media began with a focus on concert photography. David still photographs live shows and continues to bring that photographic eye to everything he creates.

Over time, his work evolved naturally toward video and filmmaking, becoming the primary focus of Metal Dave Media.

Today, David is best known for creating authentic, behind-the-scenes visual stories from inside the touring world — capturing not only the performance, but the people and experiences that surround it.
